Subject: Raptor Downgrade (Won't Grade?)
Sender: owner-lightwave@mail.webcom.com
Precedence: bulk
Since animation is not (typically) my day job, it's quite
possible I'm the last one to realize this, or perhaps I'm the only
person left with an original Raptor. In any case, as I recently
mentioned, the first rendering job I sent off to the Raptor under
4.07 produced an easily reproducible hang of LW. Upon achieving
some feedback from Deskstation, I was told "... the understanding
that the customers should have is that the Raptor
and the Raptor Plus were designed only to use ScreamerNet, which is
supported on Lightwave up to 3.5. LightWave 4.0 has not the
support for
"ScreamerNet" yet, as far as I know."
So, after about 3 day's worth of effort, I resign myself to
the inevitable--LW 3.5 is currently the end of the line for my
set-up. Of course, eventually I will be able to put a head on the
Raptor, but I tend to get awfully peeved when I must spend several
days deforming (physical) walls with my skull, when all it would
have taken was a simple, "Oh, by the way, if you happen to still
use that $15k Raptor you bought, ... ." I don't expect NewTek to
keep track of such things, but I freely grant license to
Deskstation to use my E-mail address to inform me of any planned
obsolescence of my machine.
Oh, and just in case someone suggests this, I've already
tried re-installing the old Screamernet on 4.07 & 4.06. I thought
this would be a pretty slick way around the problem, but the new
Screamernet panel still comes up. Of course, if anyone knows of a
crafty maneuver that will work here, I'm all eyes. (Hey, it's
E-mail) Actually, one of the greatest irritants of the situation
is that in the new Screamernet panel, you get to choose from the
"Original Screamernet" or the new & improved version. I'd like to
hear NewTek's definition of "Original Screamernet". I tell ya,
that NewTek sense of humor is just too much.
